Mostly complexes and high rise apartments, some small apartment buildings, and a few single-family homes dot the Yonkers landscape. Most dwellings were built between 1960 and 1984. There are some well established older homes built between 1940 and 1959, and a few historic homes prior to 1939. Homes range in price from $325,000 to $3,000,000.
In January 2006, an average 2 bedrooms, 1216 square foot house went for $400,428. The average sale price for a 3 bedroom, 1656 square foot house was $544,375.
According to the Census of 2000, Yonkers was ranked 7th in monthly mortgage costs among communities of at least 100,000 people. The median mortgage payment was $1,906.
